Charli XCX SNL Recap
Goodbye Brat summer, hello SNL fall!
Calling all 365 party girls! The queen of Brat herself has entered the building. Charli XCX pulled double duty this past weekend as SNL host and musical guest. The pop icon has performed on the show twice in the past, but made her hosting debut after wrapping up the Sweat Tour with Troye Sivan.
Cold Open
Join Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) and Joe Biden (Dana Carvey) for a lovely fireside chat as they discuss the upcoming transfer of power. Keep an eye out for special guests Matt Gaetz (Sarah Sherman) and RFK Jr. (Alec Baldwin). It’s not quite clear whether this is Trump’s first unofficial cabinet meeting or the lineup to fight Jake Paul.
Wicked Auditions
There’s no doubt Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were born to play their roles in the upcoming Wicked movie, but before they were Glinda and Elphaba, you’d be surprised to see how many stars were vying for the coveted characters. Some familiar faces include Jojo Siwa (Chloe Fineman) and Bernie Sanders (Sherman), as well as everyone’s favorite duo as of late, Charli XCX (Bowen Yang) and Troye Sivan (Charli XCX). And no, this Troye Sivan SNL appearance wasn’t illness-induced and didn’t include Timothée Chalamet.
Shrek the Musical
After watching one of the most erotically charged plays on Broadway, ahem Shrek the Musical, five friends get into a heated argument after one of them (Charli XCX) reveals she made out with Shrek. As it turns out, Shrek has been getting around more than just the swamp.
Babymoon
He’s baaaaaack. In another musical performance from your favorite girl group, Kelsey’s babymoon seems to have featured a familiar face. This time it’s coming direct from D-O-M-I-N-G-O (Marcello Hernandez).
Mean Cute
How many Please Don’t Destroy boys does it take to pick up Charli XCX? Apparently none, but it does take three to fall down the stairs. In this latest PDD digital short, the trio has a series of run-ins with the popstar, all a little meaner than the last. There’s nothing like a classic “mean cute” to get you into the holiday spirit.
Charli XCX
Introduced by “so Julia” herself Julia Fox, Charli XCX took off her hosting hat for two performances of her hit songs, “360” and “Sympathy is a knife.” The stage transported us straight into Brat-land with massive screens displaying the iconic lime green and Brat font.
Weekend Update
The Weekend Update desk was graced by a visit from the Tiger King himself, Joe Exotic (Yang), all the way from prison. In a very animal-themed news cycle, Colin Jost and Michael Che also got to meet Peanut the Squirrel’s wife (Sherman), who was devastatingly widowed when the famous squirrel was euthanized by wildlife officials.
It Girl Thanksgiving Special
It’s giving thanks and all of the “It girls” have assembled to celebrate the holiday. What’s on this year’s menu you might ask? Cigarette casseroles, The Substance, and serving face.
Watch Saturday Night Live on Peacock and NBC, live coast-to-coast, Saturdays at 11:30p ET. Stream every episode on Peacock.
