Peacock’s hilarious new mockumentary comedy Mr. Throwback is a slam dunk. Streaming it is a lay-up. It shoots, it scores! Okay, what I’m saying is that the show is about basketball and it’s very, very funny.

The bingeable six-episode comedy is written by David Caspe and Daniel and Matthew Libman, the writers and producers of Happy Endings, directed by David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer), and stars the hilarious trio of Adam Pally (The Mindy Project) Ego Nwodim (Saturday Night Live) and NBA Star Stephen Curry as a fictionalized version of himself, of course the show is going to be funny.

What is Mr. Throwback about?

[spoilers for the first episode!]

Danny (Adam Pally) is a divorced dad who runs a vintage sports memorabilia shop in Chicago and happens to be indebted to the Polish mafia to the sum of 90k.

Seeing that the Warriors are playing in Chicago, Danny decides to pay a visit to his old friend Steph Curry (playing a fictionalized version of himself), whom he hasn’t spoken to in 25 years, back when they used to be teammates.

In middle school, Danny used to be the basketball phenom, not Steph, but Danny's reputation was tarnished after it came out that his overbearing coach dad had lied about his age to give him an edge against the other kids — Danny was actually 14 and a half, not 12.

After the game, Danny finds Steph, who’s with the tough-as-nails Kimberly (Ego Nwodim), another friend of theirs from childhood, who now manages all of Steph’s media projects, including an ongoing documentary project.

After the three reminisce, Kimberly catches Danny trying to steal one of Steph’s jerseys, which Danny could easily sell to pay off the mob. In a panic, Danny explains that he needs the money to pay the medical bills for his daughter who is sick with an unknown illness.

Touched, Steph decides to put on an all-star celebrity basketball game to find a cure for Danny’s daughter’s mysterious disease and even sends some of his documentary crew to follow Danny. The catch? Danny is completely lying. His daughter (Layla Scalisi) is totally fine, and his ex-wife Samantha (Ayden Mayeri) is not too thrilled about the situation.

Will Danny be able to maintain the lie and follow through with the celebrity game and newfound attention, or will Steph and the already skeptical Kimberly see through his lie?
