Paul Mescal SNL Recap
Gladiator as a musical? Say no more.
Whether you were first introduced to him in the Colosseum or you have a toxic relationship with Connell’s chain from Normal People, this week’s SNL has a little something for everyone. Paul Mescal’s hosting debut alongside musical guest Shaboozey brought the loudest of laughs and the shortest of shorts.
Gladiator II: The Musical
It’s no secret that when Wicked and Gladiator II were released on the same day, everyone was hoping for “Barbenheimer” Part 2, but no one was expecting this. In reaction to the box office success of Wicked, it looks like the Gladiator II creators decided to take a page out of their musical playbook and transform the epic ancient Roman saga into a musical. It’s a good thing Mescal’s singing chops are as good as his sword-fighting.
Weekend Update
Michael Che and Colin Jost were visited by the newest addition to the “boy mom” ranks, a mom whose son just got famous (Heidi Gardner). It’s clear the overnight stardom has really taken a toll on her.
Shaboozey
Shaboozey brought the country vibe to SNL with his hit song, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” on a dive-bar transformed stage. He also performed his newest single, “Good News.”
Spotify Wrapped
If you’re chronically online with undiagnosed mental health issues, welcome to your Super Bowl. The queen of podcasting, mukbangs, crying on her kitchen floor and borderline culturally insensitive cosplays has made her SNL debut. Everyone, give a warm welcome to our fearless leader Trisha Paytas.
Paul Mescal Is Daddy
Finally, our dear Please Don’t Destroy boys have found the father figure they’ve been yearning for. In a stunning follow-up to his performance as a young struggling father in Aftersun, Mescal proves that he really is the father, sorry daddy, that stepped up.
Earring
A new college student (Mescal) comes home with every parents’ nightmare: a single earring. It’s safe to say that his parents (Gardner and Emil Wakim) reacted with level heads.
A Complete Unknown Red Carpet
Legends of the music industry came out to support Timothée Chalamet (Chloe Fineman) on the red carpet of his new film, A Complete Unknown. The man himself, Bob Dylan. (James Austin Johnson), decided to stop by alongside his pals Bruce Springsteen (Andrew Dismukes) and Bono (Mescal). Even your idols aren’t safe from having a Brat summer.
