Calling all Rom-Com Fans — Bros Is Streaming Now, Only on Peacock
Don’t miss this Certified Fresh movie.
Raise the rainbow flags high, Bros is streaming now on Peacock.
Starring Billy Eichner and co-written by Eichner and Nicholas Stoller (who also directed), and produced by Judd Apatow, the Certified Fresh flick delivers all the beloved traditional rom-com beats — boy meets boy, boy loses boy, boy runs through the streets to find boy as the music swells — and it wears its big heart on its perfectly tailored sleeve. But the movie is also wickedly funny, delivering sharp jokes at a rapid-fire pace that leave no gemstones unturned.
Eichner plays Bobby Leibner, a motormouthed, insecure 40-something who is loudly, proudly and actively gay, but unlucky in love. At a launch party for a new dating app (hilariously called Zellweger), Bobby meets Aaron (Luke Macfarlane), a chiseled hunk with a boring day job who enjoys nothing more than the attention he gets from everyone. As these two commitment-phobes compete for who can be more blasé about romance, they slowly and painfully stumble toward something that maybe, just maybe, might resemble a relationship.
The big subplot about Bobby’s job as an executive at a new LGBTQ+ museum comes very close to stealing the show, as the all-queer museum board bickers incessantly about what exhibits can — and cannot — be displayed. It pokes big fun at the differences within the community and the passions they engender, and it’s never less than meta-hilarious.
The movie does not shy away from frank depictions of gay life, and it earns its “R” rating with scenes of nudity, sex, lusty kissing, drug use, and a very funny, first-date four-way with a random guy named Steve. The all-gay principal cast is terrific, and also includes Ts Madison, Monica Raymund, Guillermo Díaz, Guy Branum, Amanda Bearse, and Harvey Fierstein, but the movie is nearly stolen by a parade of outrageous cameos from the likes of Kristin Chenowith, Ben Stiller, Amy Schumer, Kenan Thompson, and Debra Messing.
So what are you waiting for? Watch the movie that Deadline calls “...the funniest film of the year - and one of the most heartfelt." And The Chicago Sun Times says, "One of the funniest, smartest, warmest and most enjoyable romantic comedies in recent years...lives up to the swooning standard of When Harry Met Sally and Notting Hill."
