How to Watch Fencing at the 2024 Paris Olympics: Stream on Peacock LIVE, Event Times, and More

En garde! Fencing is the Olympic sport you’re about to fall in love with (if you haven’t already).

Olympic Fencing

The ancient sport of fencing traces its origins all the way back to swordplay, which has been practiced for thousands of years. Fencing has been part of the Summer Olympics ever since the modern Games began in 1896 in Athens. You can watch every fencing event of the 2024 Paris Olympics — as well as every medal and every moment — live and on-demand on Peacock.

How does fencing work?

There are three different weapons used in fencing competition: foil, épée, and sabre. In each event, two athletes face each other with a weapon in one hand and try to strike their opponent on a valid target of the body. The first player to reach 15 points, or whoever has the most points when the clock runs out, is the winner.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, there will be six different fencing events for both men and women, including individual and team events for each weapon. Team events are won by reaching 45 points, or whichever team has the most points when time expires.

Where will the Olympic Fencing events be held?

The Fencing competition will take place at the historic Grand Palais on Avenue des Champs-Elysées, one of the most well-known landmarks in the heart of Paris.

What athletes should I watch for?

Hungarian fencer Aron Szilagyi is aiming for a record fourth Olympic gold medal in men’s saber after winning at the London, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo Olympics. Szilagyi hasn’t lost an individual bout at the Olympics since the 2008 Beijing Games.

On the women’s side, one of Ukraine’s best hopes for an Olympic medal lies with Olga Kharlan, who had a unique route to the Games. At the last world championships, Kharlan refused to shake the hand of her Russian opponent and was disqualified, but the International Olympic Committee decided to award her a spot in Paris anyway.

For Team USA, all eyes will be on Lee Keifer and Gerek Meinhardt. Keifer is the defending gold medalist in women’s individual foil, and the first American in history to win gold — man or woman — in the event. Meinhardt is a two-time bronze medalist in men’s team foil. Together they are fencing’s undisputed power couple. Married since 2019, they both put medical school on hold to train for the Olympics.
