Olympic Wrestling

Wrestling was part of the first modern Olympics in 1896 and every edition since except the 1900 Games. Greco-Roman Wrestling limits athletes to using their upper bodies to hold opponents above the waist, while Freestyle Wrestling allows the use of legs and below-the-waist holds. Olympic Wrestling is divided into six weight classes per discipline with 16 wrestlers each facing off in single-elimination matches. In 2004, Women’s Freestyle Wrestling joined the Olympic program.
