New Friday Night Lights Series in Development at Peacock
Dust off those football jerseys, boys!
Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose. Peacock has announced that a new adaptation of Friday Night Lights is officially in development.
The potential series takes place in the aftermath of a devastating hurricane, when a ragtag high school football team and their damaged interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship. Through their unexpected rise, the football team becomes a beacon of light for their town.
The beloved original series ran for five seasons from 2006-2011 on NBC and DirecTV, and won three Emmy® awards. The critically acclaimed sports drama was inspired by the 1990 H.G. Bissinger novel that was later adapted into a 2004 feature film. The series cast included Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Aimee Teegarden, Taylor Kitsch, Jesse Plemmons, Zach Gilford, Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki, Scott Porter, Gaius Charles, Michael B. Jordan, Jurnee Smollett, Matt Lauria, and Grey Damon.
Members of the original creative team are back at the helm of the new iteration, including showrunner Jason Katims, director Peter Berg, and executive producer Brian Grazer.
