Thunder vs. Cavaliers preview

The Thunder stopped just short of repeating an NBA Finals run last season, but they've still got their core talent intact, and they're still winning. They come into Cleveland with their stars playing well and their record looking solid, but they're facing impressive opposition.

The Cavs are undefeated in Cleveland so far this year, and they rank among the top five in the league in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. Donovan Mitchell is playing well, and the team around him is following suit. Cleveland looks like a team prepared to head back to the playoffs right now, and a win over a Thunder squad that still feels quite potent would be a statement-maker.

Thunder vs. Cavaliers players to watch

Jarrett Allen of the Cleveland Cavaliers shoots a free throw during the game against the Washington Wizards.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is still the key to the Thunder's offense, but this year Isaiah Hartenstein has proven just as vital as a defender. He was already a key player on the squad, but with Chet Holmgren on the bench with an injury for the rest of the year, Hartenstein's ability to make an impact in the paint is crucial to keep the Thunder rolling. He's averaging more than nine rebounds a game, and if he has a good night, the squad around him should be able to keep up the scoring.

But it won't be easy, because the Cavs have Jarrett Allen, whose season so far is just as good as Hartenstein's. He's also averaging more than nine rebounds a game, and he backs up his solid shooting contributions with one of the best percentages from the field in the league right now. This will be an all-out battle for the paint, so keep an eye on Hartenstein and Allen, because the game could run through either or both of them.

Who's on the broadcast team for Thunder vs. Cavaliers?

Michael Grady will handle play-by-play duties for NBC Sports, with Robbie Hummel providing "On The Bench" analysis for the Thunder, and Austin Rivers providing "On The Bench" analysis for the Cavaliers.
