With a heart two sizes too small, the Grinch tries to steal Christmas from the residents of Whoville. But this green meanie gets schooled that the holiday is about so much more than presents and feasts. Touching all our hearts, it’s one of the most treasured family Christmas movies that has spawned several versions based on Dr. Seuss’ classic book.

2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Jim Carrey slipped effortlessly into the role of the Grinch for this live-action flick, which is back on Peacock on Dec 20. With a snarl in his voice, a spike to his mohawk, and green fur covering him from head to toe, he creeps from his lonely perch on Mount Crumpit to steal Christmas from those below. But don’t call it a bad attitude! As the story unfolds, we learn that some people in Whoville have been more naughty than nice to the Grinch in the past, which explains why he despises the season.

3. Dr. Seuss' The Grinch (2018)
The Grinch (Benedict Cumberbatch) wants to steal Christmas from the holiday-loving town of Whoville. His plans are almost derailed by an ambitious 6-year-old Cindy Lou Who (Cameron Seeley) who has set a trap to capture Ole St. Nick, hoping he’ll give her mother Donna Who (Rashida Jones) a lighter workload. And the childhood trauma that causes the Grinch to cringe every Christmas is revealed. The inspiration for Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical (2020), the 85-minute show features the classic hit songs, “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas,” introducing a new generation to the Grinch.

4. The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Christmas! (2012)
The Cat in the Hat is at it again. This time, he takes Sally, Nick, Thing One and Thing Two, and Fish on an adventure to return a baby reindeer to his home after a Christmas Eve party. It’s a romp through holiday traditions and cultures and reminds us of the importance of Christmas kindness and cheer.

5. Casper’s Haunted Christmas (2000)
The weather outside is frightful, but Casper the Friendly Ghost (Brendon Ryan Barrett) is still finding it hard to serve up scares in the holiday-loving town of Kriss. His three ghostly uncles take matters into their own hands and hire Casper’s look-alike cousin Spooky (Samuel Vincent) to finish the deeds.

7. Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas
Curious George (Frank Welker) can’t contain his excitement for Christmas Day, even though it's 12 days away. But the man in the yellow hat (Jeff Bennett) helps the inquisitive little primate see all the things they can do leading up to Christmas, low-key teaching impatient little viewers that waiting for the big day can be fun.

8. The Legend of Frosty the Snowman (2005)
We all know the tale of that jolly, happy soul. But did you know the original 1969 TV special has a sequel? This animated film features Frosty the Snowman (Bill Fagerbakke) showing the town of Evergreen just how much fun they can have in the snow. Narrated by Burt Reynolds, children and adults can all believe in magic again with the help of a top hat.

9. It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie (2002)
As he faces the closure of the beloved Muppet Theater, Kermit the Frog (voiced by Steve Whitmire) wishes he’d never been born. In this homage to It’s a Wonderful Life’s George Bailey, an angel grants Kermit a glimpse of the world without him. Kermit then realizes how important he is to his Muppet community and works overtime to save the theater.
