Peacock has released the official teaser and first-look photos from the series that is based on true events of the Pan Am Flight 103 tragedy that took place in 1988 and claimed the lives of 269 people. Oscar® winner Colin Firth stars.
When will Lockerbie: A Search for Truth premiere?
All five episodes of Lockerbie: A Search for Truth will premiere Jan 2, 2025 on Peacock in the US. It will drop same day on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
What is Lockerbie: A Search for Truth about?
On Dec 21, 1988, 259 passengers and crew were killed when Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, with 11 residents also losing their lives as the plane crashed over the quiet town. In the wake of the disaster and his daughter’s death, Dr. Jim Swire (Firth), is appointed the spokesperson for the UK victims’ families, who have united to demand truth and justice.
The series follows Jim on his search for the truth, which includes traveling across continents to meet with Muammar Gaddafi. It also deals with the lasting impact the tragedy has on Jim, his wife Jane (Catherine McCormack), and their family.
Who’s in the cast?
In addition to Firth and McCormack, the cast includes Rosanna Adams, Jemma Carlton, Harry Redding, Sam Troughton, Mark Bonner, Ardalan Esmaili, and Selwa Jghalef.
What have producers said about the series?
Gareth Naeme and Nigel Marchant, executive producers of Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, shared in a joint statement why they decided to tell the story of the real-life tragedy:
“The bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 was one of the most devastating acts of terrorism that took the lives of 270 innocent people, including both US and UK citizens. As the spokesperson for the UK victim’s families, we have followed Jim Swire’s remarkable story for over three decades. It is consequential to now watch Colin Firth’s captivating performance as he depicts Jim’s life’s work on screen. In part a profoundly moving character story of love and loss, this drama is as much an investigative political thriller that shows how an ordinary man with unstoppable determination can take on governments and world leaders in pursuit of truth.”
