Week 6 Love Island USA Recap: Episodes 34-37
Who won Season 5 of Love Island USA?
After a wild, sexy, messy season, Love Island USA gave us a finale to remember this week. Which couple won, who took the money, and did Iain ever get to go home? Read on to find out! As always, SPOILERS AHEAD!
Who Will Stay Together?
After Imani and Zay were voted the least compatible couple by their fellow islanders, Destiny and Kyle were thrilled to have been saved after garnering a few votes of their own. Meanwhile, Johnnie and Scott confronted Taylor and Bergie who defended their vote to cast them off, believing that Johnnie and Scott simply had too many options leading into the recoupling.
As their time in the villa began to wind down, Hannah and Marco pictured their lives on the outside, featuring morning dog walks and dinners at the beach, while Kassy and Leo discussed how they would make a long-distance relationship work. On a less serious note, the islanders goofed off with a game of “the floor is lava” and after all the couples were knocked out by a wobbly flamingo float, Carmen and Kenzo claimed victory.
Meet the Parents
Later that evening, the islanders gathered in excitement to watch a series of videos sent by their family and friends. Carmen’s parents approved of Kenzo but warned her to stay away from the hideaway. Scott’s family affirmed that he needed a confident woman and believed that Johnnie fit the mold. Leo’s family shared their happiness for him and Kassy, but joked that Kassy needed to improve her Spanish. Kyle and Bergie’s families raised concerns, and — while Marco’s family loved Hannah — his grandma stole the show with her “porno” comment.
Baking Cakes and Making Meals
The islanders received a text alerting that the hideaway was open, so they all jumped to suggest that boyfriend and girlfriend Kenzo and Carmen should take the prize. But Kenzo declined the offer out of respect for Carmen’s father’s wishes.
Instead, Leo and Kassy were the lucky couple to win some time alone, and they enjoyed a night of champagne and toys. The next day, Kassy debriefed the girls on her big night and shared that she and Leo went to the “bakery” and made a “cake”… three times.
The islanders then geared up for their final challenge. Dressed in line cook attire, the couples worked together in the “Up-N-Down Diner” challenge to prepare a meal, all while being chained to each other’s wrists. Destiny and Mike were declared the winners, but, the meals didn’t look so appetizing and the day ended in a messy food fight.
Feeling emotional from watching the family videos, Marco spent some time alone by the ocean, reflecting on his mom who recently passed away. Hannah came to his side to console him, promising that she would always be there to support him.
Later, Sarah Hyland made an appearance to tell the islanders that America had been voting to determine their Love Island USA 2023 finalists. Gathered around the firepit for one last elimination, newest couples Destiny and Kyle and Johnnie and Scott were voted out and sent home, leaving the final five couples in the finale:
Carmen and Kenzo
Hannah and Marco
Kassy and Leo
Taylor and Bergie
The Final Dates
The next morning, the final couples received texts inviting them on their spectacular final dates. First to leave were Kassy and Leo who took flight in a helicopter over the sparkling ocean and landed on a small sandbar that the couple named “Ka-Leo” island. In that remote location, Leo asked Kassandra to be his “novia,” promising endless “besos” to come.
Next to go were Carmen and Kenzo who were serenaded on a beautiful beach by a Fijian choir. After they settled down for a picnic, Kenzo uttered those three little words to Carmen for the first time, and she lovingly returned the sentiment.
Up next, Taylor and Bergie headed to the private island of Mala Mala for a candlelit beach date. In perhaps the most heartwarming moment of the season, Bergie presented Taylor with a hopelessly romantic book of letters addressed to his future partner that he had written over the years. After reading one heartfelt letter aloud, Bergie popped the big question and asked Taylor to be his girlfriend. “Let’s gooo!”
And last (but not least), Marco and Hannah sat down for a romantic dinner, and Hannah admitted to Marco that she could see herself moving in with him. In a touching moment, Marco told Hannah that he couldn’t wait to meet her mom, hoping she might fill the void he felt since his own mother passed away. And then… finally, Marco officially asked Hannah to be his girlfriend and they ended the night dancing under the stars.
And the Winners of Love Island USA Are…
On their last bittersweet day in the villa, the girls headed out for an afternoon of R&R to select some glamorous dresses for the big night. Upon their return, the handsome boys lined up in suits as their gorgeous women stepped out one by one. The islanders then read intimate vows to one another, and they brought all the feels, sparking Marco to shed a few tears, and Kenzo to allude to an engagement.
After six weeks of romance, heartbreak, besos, and crazy drama in Soul Ties, Love Island USA came to its dramatic conclusion. Sarah Hyland stepped out into the villa one last time and presented the finalists with the results of America’s vote.
In fourth place were Carmen and Kenzo.
Taylor and Bergie took third place.
And finally, drum roll please… Hannah and Marco were crowned the winners of Love Island USA 2023 with Kassy and Leo earning the runners-up spot.
With $100,000 on the line, Marco decided to split the money with Hannah, and our faith in love was once again restored.
