What to Know About New NBC Nature Documentary Series The Americas

Nature is king in The Americas. In NBC’s new 10-part nature documentary series, extraordinary areas of the world and parts of the animal kingdom are shown for the first time on television. Made over the course of five years, here’s what you need to know about the special television event.  

When does The Americas premiere? 

The 10-part special television event premieres Sunday, Feb 23 at 7p ET/PT on NBC with two back-to-back episodes. The series settles into its regular Sunday 8p ET/PT home the following week on NBC on March 2. 

A bonus episode following the conclusion of the series will feature a behind-the-scenes look at how the impressive high-tech shots were captured. 

How can I watch The Americas on Peacock? 

New episodes of The Americas are available to stream the day after they air on NBC starting Feb 24. 

Who narrates The Americas? 

Oscar® winner Tom Hanks narrates all 10 episodes of the nature documentary series. Oscar®- and Grammy®-winning composer Hans Zimmer also wrote original music. 

What is The Americas about? 

The Americas, a co-production between the BBC Studios Natural History Unit and Universal Television Alternative Studio, showcases the wonders, secrets, and fragilities of the world’s greatest supercontinent. For the first time, the Americas stars in its own incomparable series, using innovative technology to uncover never-before-seen behavior, and highlight the extraordinary, untold wildlife stories that will deeply connect with millions around the world.

Five years in the making and filmed over 180 expeditions, the series reveals the spectacular landscapes of Earth’s most varied landmass – the only one to stretch between both poles. The Americas unprecedented scale and ambition delivers remarkable world firsts – new species, new intimate courtship, dramatic deep-sea hunting, and some of nature’s strangest stories.  

What does each episode focus on? 

Each one-hour episode puts the spotlight on a specific location across the Americas: the Atlantic Coast, Mexico, the Wild West, the Amazon, the Frozen North, the Gulf Coast, the Andes, the Caribbean, the West Coast, and Patagonia. 

Is there a trailer for The Americas? 

Yes, there is. NBC released the first official trailer last November introducing audiences to the impressive scope and beauty of the ambitious nature series. 

Are there more previews available for The Americas? 

Yes, there are more teasers.  

NBC released another preview on Thanksgiving Day, highlighting family connections within the animal kingdom. A second one was dropped in January, featuring a playful, tongue-in-cheek tone celebrating “prancing flamingoes,” “ninja salamanders,” and more.
