And here are some more movies with female heroes to round your week out:

Thelma & Louise

This classic buddy-road-movie-gone-bad is as fresh and relevant today as it was when it first came out over thirty years ago. Susan Sarandon and Gina Davis are outstanding as best friends on a fun weekend getaway that turns into an escape from the police when a terrifying moment of self-defense leads to death. Brad Pitt also makes a memorable debut as a charming hustler on the make. Winner of the Academy Award® for Best Original Screenplay and directed by the renowned Ridley Scott, Thelma & Louise is not to be missed.

Fried Green Tomatoes

In this beloved comedy/tearjerker, an unhappy housewife (Kathy Bates) befriends a lively nursing home resident (Jessica Tandy) who entertains her with vivid stories of people she knew in 1930s Alabama. Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker also shine as strong women from the past. Perhaps one of the greatest feel-good movies of all time, this story of hope and empowerment is sure to steal your heart.

Death Becomes Her

Screen legends Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn have rarely been better than in this outrageous comedy about lifelong frenemies who each seek eternal youth and beauty. The stacked cast also includes Bruce Willis as the put-upon plastic surgeon they fight over and Isabella Rossellini as the glamorous keeper of the magical elixir they both desire. Chock full of meme-able moments and nimbly directed by fellow legend Robert Zemeckis, this is one to watch over and over again.

Kill Bill: Volumes 1 & 2

It’s not easy for someone like Quentin Tarantino to outdo himself, but he achieves it not once but twice in this two-part non-stop action sensation. Uma Thurman is remarkable as a lethal assassin known only as The Bride, who wakes from a coma four years after her jealous ex-lover attempts to murder her on her wedding day. Vowing to take revenge on every person who wronged her, she sets out on an epic, blood-soaked quest to take down some of the gnarliest villains ever, played memorably by Darryl Hannah, Lucy Liu, Michael Madsen, Vivica A. Fox, and David Carradine as the eponymous Bill. The fight sequences alone are worth the commitment for these breathtaking films.

Hanna

Saoirse Ronan plays a teenage girl raised by her father (Eric Bana) in the Finnish wilderness, who has trained all her life to be the perfect assassin. While on a mission across Europe, she must evade agents intent on destroying her, and face startling revelations about her very existence. Reminiscent of The Day of the Jackal, this beautifully shot, slickly directed thriller also stars an always-excellent Cate Blanchett as a ruthless boss with ice in her veins. If you like your action stone cold, this one’s for you.

Red

Dame Hellen Mirren expertly wielding a machine gun? Yes please! When a retired Black Ops agent’s life is threatened, he reassembles his old team to break into CIA headquarters and uncover a massive conspiracy. Besides the crackerjack cast that also includes Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Brian Cox, and Richard Dreyfuss, this nonstop action thriller has something unique going for it — it’s also hilariously funny. If you’re looking for a rollicking good time on your movie night, Red is the ticket.
