The Traitors Season 3 Episode 3 Recap

A new twist spices up the game.

The Traitors Season 3 Episode 3 Boston Rob Wes Derrick

The finger-pointing and paranoia are already reaching a boiling point in The Traitors castle – and it’s only the third episode. As things get real for the players, they do their best to stay one step ahead of the Traitors. Will the players successfully banish a Traitor, or will the Faithful continue to be knocked out of the game?

Here’s every notable thing that happened in The Traitor Season 3’s third episode, “Nail in the Coffin.”

Who Do the Traitors Murder?

With Boston Rob reluctantly welcomed into the latest Traitors meeting in the turret, he’s not impressed with his conspirators. “I’m not too thrilled. When I look around and see who my fellow Traitors are, they couldn’t be more different,” the Survivor and Deal or No Deal Island alum says. His concerns are realized when the other Traitors – Danielle Reyes, Bob the Drag Queen, and Carolyn Wiger – start throwing out various names (minus the ones protected by the shields): Housewives Chanel Ayan and Dolores Catania, as well as Tom Sandoval and Britney Haynes.

It's apparent to Boston Rob that Bob the Drag Queen is running the Traitors meetings, and Boston Rob indirectly takes the reins. He presents an ultimatum: either create more chaos or a direct, unified front. By murdering Ayan, the Traitors opt to go for madness and confusion.

The Chaotic Aftermath

The Traitors get what they want... kind of.

As paranoia spreads throughout the castle, players voice their suspicions about who they think is a Traitor – for some though, it’ll come back to bite them at the roundtable later. Danielle Reyes’ name is thrown out immediately by Jeremy Collins, as well as Tony Vlachos – targeted for Ayan’s murder and his previous gameplay on Survivor – and Bob the Drag Queen, who is singled out by Dylan Efron with solid evidence to back his accusation up. (Of course, we know Dylan is on the right track.) “I don't think Traitors are safe when I’m in this castle,” Dylan says quite confidently.

The fact that two out of the three names being floated are actual Traitors worries Carolyn and Boston Rob. Word gets back to Danielle and Bob the Drag Queen that their over-the-top antics and eyebrow-raising comments are putting targets on their backs. Sadly, for Dylan, he makes a rookie mistake by airing out his theory about Bob the Drag Queen in front of Jeremy, who runs back to the RuPaul’s Drag Race star to snitch.

Which Players Are At Risk of Banishment?

The second roundtable of the season gets heated as Bob the Drag Queen confronts Dylan over his traitorous theory. Despite Dylan presenting a strong argument as to why Bob the Drag Queen is guilty, citing his involvement in the banishment of Wells Adams in Episode 2, he suddenly finds himself in danger of banishment.

Tony is another player in the hot seat, stemming from his off-handed comment that Bob Harper could be a Traitor and the belief by some players that Alan Cumming would only pick capable players to be Traitors. It doesn’t help that Boston Rob adds fuel to the fire, asking Tony why he didn’t make any effort to speak to him after earning his shield.

Who Is Banished?

Whatever Boston Rob said may have made a difference. After a few surprising votes – Jeremy issues a “throwaway” for Tom Sandoval and Bob the Drag Queen votes for Lord Ivar Mountbatten (we’re as confused as Dylan is about that one) – and a big swing by Dylan to go after Bob the Drag Queen that doesn’t land, the others fall in line and banish Tony.

Standing inside the circle of truth, Tony reveals he is a Faithful. “You’re a sell-out, bro,” an emotional Tony points to Boston Rob as he leaves the castle forever.

The Traitors Season 3 Episode 3 Roundtable

Introducing a New Traitors Twist

The Traitors have their work cut out for them as a new wrinkle to the game is introduced. Instead of murdering their next victim via a secret meeting in the turret, they will shortlist three players – and one Traitor can be listed to throw off the scent. But they also need to do it in plain sight by writing the names on a scroll and putting it inside a coffin located in a secret room in the castle’s wine cellar. The shortlisted players then lie down in coffins for public viewing before the Traitors nail one of the coffins to murder them.

The difficulty level of the Traitors’ task is incredibly high, but somehow the four of them slip into the secret room undetected to have a lively discussion. Boston Rob nixes the idea of putting a Traitor’s name down. The Traitors think they’ve gotten off scot-free after landing on three players, but the volume of Bob the Drag Queen’s voice threatens their confidential meeting. One of the players, Gabby Windey, happens to be leaving the wine cellar room just as Danielle and Carolyn exit the secret room, and the Bachelor alum turns back around after hearing commotion. Did she catch them in the act?
