The Traitors Season 3 Episode 4 Recap
A betrayal of epic proportions is coming.
You just knew Boston Rob was waiting to make a big move, and voila, it happened in dramatic – and we mean DRAMATIC – fashion in the latest episode of The Traitors. The Survivor and Deal or No Deal Island veteran has a reputation for being cutthroat when it comes to strategic gameplay (there’s a reason why he’s a reality TV legend), even if it means turning on one of his fellow Traitors, which is exactly what happens in Episode 4.
Here’s every dramatic moment from The Traitors Season 3’s episode, “I Will Bury You Under the Sand.”
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Do the Traitors Get Found Out?
The question raised from the last episode is where this episode opens: Did Gabby Windey catch the Traitors in the act after the foursome slip out of the secret bookcase in the wine cellar? Gabby did hear Danielle Reyes‘ voice from the secret bookcase but did an about-face to, well, save face – confronting the Traitors alone would be disastrous, she concludes.
She’s not the only one to pick up on the strange vibes in the castle. Others comment that something feels off and that it’s just a little too quiet. Like clockwork, Dylan Efron stumbles across the secret room because it was left half open (amateur move not to dot every “I” and cross every “T,” Traitors!). He enters the secret lair, turning over every nook and cranny, quite adamant that something has been moved. Ironically, Danielle is there keeping a watchful eye on Dylan’s every move.
Suspicions over the Traitors’ identities make their way to breakfast the following morning, when Gabby shares her Danielle intel and Robyn Dixon throws out her (incorrect) theory that one of the three players put in the coffins the night before (more on that later) is a Traitor. Unfortunately for Gabby, the players shrug at her theory about Danielle and the secret bookcase, making her believe it’s been debunked. Adding insult to injury is the fact that Danielle deflects a question about why she was by the bookcase and strings Dylan’s name along.
Who Do the Traitors Murder?
The Traitors mutually decide to go after a Survivor, a former WWE wrestler and a Summer House star, shortlisting the following for murder:
Jeremy Collins
Nikki Garcia
Ciara Miller
Despite intending to go far with the other Survivors in the game, Jeremy became a target because of his early intuition that Danielle was a Traitor. His last-ditch plea, promising that he will work with the Traitors in the game, ultimately doesn’t spare him. With Jeremy gone and "the sus" now on Nikki and Ciara, Boston Rob says the Traitors "got three kills for the price of one.”
What Happened in the Mission?
Sometimes the missions can bear little to no fruit (see last week’s failed mission) and other times, it can add money to the pot and plant seeds for future blindsides. Through the “Head on a Stick” challenge, the players add $20,000 to the prize fund after they put together 10 Easter Island replica statues. The players whose names are on the statue heads earn shields and can’t be murdered. As the dust settles, Bob the Drag Queen chooses this moment to drop a bombshell theory that one of the “new guys” – Boston Rob, Wes Bergmann, and Derrick Levasseur – should have gotten a shield since the popular belief is that one of them is a Traitor.
That doesn’t sit well with Boston Rob, who fits both criteria. Forget a “Traitors ‘til the end” alliance, he’s set his sights on pointing the arrow of suspicion on Bob the Drag Queen – and the time to backstab his fellow Traitor is at the roundtable later that evening.
Boston Rob Sets Up a Traitorous Blindside
Of course, it’s not as easy as it sounds – even for a seasoned gamer like Boston Rob. He needs numbers and he can’t target Bob the Drag Queen publicly, instead playing puppet master behind the scenes to get support on his side. Boston Rob pulls in Dylan, who’s been onto Bob the Drag Queen from the beginning. And word travels to Chrishell Stause and Lord Ivar Mountbatten, plus a few other players, about the planned blindside. Then Boston Rob breaks the news to a stunned Danielle and Carolyn, who still believe the plan is to axe Ciara or Nikki. Danielle doesn’t want to banish Bob the Drag Queen yet, mainly because he’s her “ride or die,” and Carolyn doesn’t feel good about the 180. Tough luck for Danielle, because Boston Rob privately tells Carolyn that the plan is a go.
The roundtable starts off innocently enough. Players are hemming and hawing over whether Nikki or Ciara is a Traitor, some using innocuous pieces of evidence to build up their arguments. It’s not until Boston Rob takes control of the discussion that things quickly get spicy. “Since I got here, there’s been one person who’s been quarterbacking this entire show,” Boston Rob says. “And I believe that person is the person who’s a Traitor.” He adds that the culprit is “beloved” and a master of deflection.
That can only be one person in the game: “Bob the Drag Queen,” Boston Rob dramatically reveals, leaving the RuPaul’s Drag Race star genuinely shocked. His retort? “I am just going to say nine words: I swear to God that I am a Faithful,” Bob the Drag Queen says in response. Boston Rob comes back with a memorable comeback: “Let me say two words. You‘re not.” It helps Boston Rob’s case that Dylan is in his corner, with the reality TV novice arguing that Bob the Drag Queen "is an amazing actor.” Dylan would know, since he “grew up with an actor,” referencing his older brother.
Who Is Banished?
The votes are split between Nikki, Ciara, Bob the Drag Queen and Boston Rob. No shock here: Bob the Drag Queen is the lone vote for the Survivor vet. With 11 votes, Bob the Drag Queen is banished from the game. He leaves the castle with a delicious scenery-chewing exit reveal. "Listen to my words very carefully. I will tell the truth, but I will never tell a lie. All of you know I‘ve never lied. Guys, I swear to God... God!” he pauses for dramatic effect. “And that was a lie because I don’t believe in God. I'm a Traitor."
At the end of the day, it’s all a game and Bob the Drag Queen got caught in Boston Rob’s crosshairs. He acknowledges afterwards that it was a good game move on Boston Rob’s part. Game, recognize game. The Faithful have newfound confidence after successfully banishing a Traitor (and Dylan’s power rankings just shot straight to the top in the castle), but the Traitors are this close to imploding. Is Boston now in danger? That next meeting in the turret is going to be intense.
