Interestingly, this upcoming international break will be longer than usual, totaling 16 days (from September 21 to October 6) and four matches for countries as opposed to the traditional nine-day and two-game format. That means after Matchweek 5, fans will have to wait two weeks for Premier League action to return. With that in mind, make sure you tune in this weekend on Peacock before the Premier League goes on break.

What happened last week in Premier League?

Before we get into Matchweek 5, let’s review what happened last weekend. Arsenal and Manchester City both remained perfect with impressive wins last weekend. The Gunners defeated Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light, while Manchester City claimed a 1-0 victory in a controversial Manchester Derby. Hull City, Leeds, Brentford, Liverpool, and Everton all remained unbeaten to start the year, with Hull continuing their impressive return to Premier League football. At the bottom of the table, Coventry is winless and goalless through four matches, joining Tottenham Hotspur as the only two teams yet to score a goal this season. Aston Villa and Fulham round out the relegation zone in 19th and 18th respectively, both having yet to find their first win of the season.

Newcastle United vs. Hull City

The Tigers are flying to start the year with two wins and two draws in four matches, currently sitting in 4th place in the Premier League table. They’ll look to keep their unbeaten streak going when they visit Newcastle on Saturday, who will be looking to bounce back from a difficult defeat against Leeds last weekend.

Everton vs. Ipswich Town

Everton has three draws in their last three Premier League matches, proving to be a difficult team to beat this year. David Moyes will be hoping for all three points in this one however, as the Toffees take on newly-promoted Ipswich, who are fresh off an impressive 3-2 away victory against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Nottingham Forest vs. Coventry City

Frank Lampard will be eager for Coventry to record their first goal and points of the season, but they’ll face a difficult test in a Nottingham Forest side at home. Forest is unbeaten in their last three matches and will be eager to build momentum into the international break.

Manchester City vs. Sunderland

With Arsenal facing a tough test against Brighton on Saturday, this match could be an opportunity for Manchester City to jump ahead of the Gunners in the table. But this will be no easy game for Enzo Maresca’s men, as Sunderland just proved last weekend how difficult they are to beat. The Black Cats are fresh off their first win of the Europa League campaign and will look to finish strong before the international break begins.

Leeds United vs. Crystal Palace

Leeds has been superb to start the season, currently occupying 3rd place in the table with two wins and two draws in four matches. They will look to keep the good times rolling at Elland Road, where they have been notoriously formidable, against a Palace side that has three defeats in their opening four matches.

Fulham vs. Manchester United

After beginning the season with three defeats in their opening three games, Fulham and manager Álvaro Arbeloa eased the tension with an impressive 0-0 draw last weekend against Liverpool at Anfield. They’ll come up against a Manchester United team that is facing mounting pressure themselves after back-to-back defeats to 10-man Manchester City and Brighton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. This should be a fun one to watch.

Premier League players to watch in Matchweek 5

Rayan Cherki

With Phil Foden suspended, Manchester City will rely on the flashy Rayan Cherki to help break down a stout Sunderland defense on Sunday. Cherki has enjoyed a good start to the season with two goals and two assists in four Premier League matches, and he will be eager to add to his tally at home in a matchup where City will likely dominate possession.

Mohamed Belloumi

Belloumi was Hull City’s hero last weekend at Stamford Bridge, scoring both goals in their 2-2 draw with Chelsea. In another difficult matchup against Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Saturday, Hull will rely on Belloumi for creativity and goal threat in the attacking third. If the Tigers hope to take something from this game, Belloumi will need to be at his best.

Anton Stach

After an impressive debut season for Leeds, Stach has continued his strong form into this season. He’s established himself as one of the best current free-kick takers in the league and is a crucial part of this Leeds midfield. He’ll be eager to get on the scoresheet yet again in front of the home fans at Elland Road.
