The 2024 NFL regular season is in full swing, and that means Sunday Night Football every week. Cap off the weekend with a massive matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Houston Texans.
Week 10 of the NFL season brings us another thriller on Sunday Night Football. End the day with the biggest game of the week as we head to Houston, TX where the Detroit Lions take on the hometown Texans.
Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans
The Lions (7–1, 1st in the NFC North) are on top of the NFC and are one of the most exciting teams in football this season. When you’re watching this team, it really feels like anything can happen on every play. Does it look like they’re running the ball? Well, it could become a pass at any time. And if running back Jameson Williams does keep the ball, his speed and explosive play-making ability makes him near-unstoppable. This is an incredibly balanced team, which makes it hard for opponents to find a weak point. They may have taken a loss to the Buccaneers in Week 2, but Detroit has not lost a game since. Quarterback Jared Goff has not thrown an interception since September. Since that last interception, Goff and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown have not missed one pass in the 30 targets St. Brown has seen. On the other side of the ball, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has coached his unit to be tough, physical, and unrelenting. Not only do opponents have trouble stopping the Lions, the Lions seem to be able to stop almost anybody. Keep executing like this, and the Lions will extend their winning streak on Sunday night.
The Texans (6–3, 1st in AFC South) started the season with high expectations after quarterback C.J. Stroud’s surprise rookie-season performance. Despite some struggles in his second year, the Texans are still on top of the AFC South. Many of those struggles can be attributed to injuries. Wide receiver Nico Collins sat out the last four games with a hamstring injury. He’s off the Injured Reserve list now, but is still unlikely to start on Sunday. Making things even harder for the passing game, WR Stefon Diggs is out for the season after tearing his ACL in Week 8. Houston will rely once again on Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, and Robert Woods to step up in their absence. Fortunately for the Texans, running back Joe Mixon has been electric this season, with 609 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Mixon’s presence on the field gives the Houston offence a ton of options, spreading opposing defenses thin, and opening up big plays. The real key to the game though will be the defense. The Texans have one of the best pass-rushes in the league, and they plan to put a ton of pressure on Goff. If the Texans can get to the Lions QB fast enough, it won’t matter what tricks they have dialed up. Stop the play before it starts, and the Texans can pull off the upset at home.
