Premier League Mornings features Man United v Arsenal Sunday at 12:30p ET On Peacock and NBC

This weekend promises a new iteration of the famous Premier League rivalry between Manchester United and Arsenal.

Manchester United v. Arsenal

It’s been a difficult season for Manchester United. Knocked out of the Carabao Cup and now the FA Cup, not to mention sitting in 14th place on the Premier League table, the Red Devils have struggled this year. With 11 games left to go in the league, United are currently 13 points away from 5th-place Chelsea, likely the cutoff for next season’s Champions League qualification spots. This leaves the Europa League as the best chance United have at achieving European football for next year. The Red Devils drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad on Thursday in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash, with the second leg coming next Thursday A visit from Arsenal at Old Trafford will be a fitting preparation for that second leg and Ruben Amorim’s men will be raring to go against one of Man United’s fiercest rivals. A win against the Gunners would do wonders for United in building momentum for the remainder of the season. To do so, the Red Devils will rely on their talisman and captain Bruno Fernandes to lead the team to victory. Fernandes has now had double digit numbers for goals and assists in all of his full seasons at Manchester United and his brilliance this season has helped his team immeasurably. With Amad Diallo out injured for the rest of the year and Alejandro Garnacho struggling for form, Fernandes has been a bright spark for United. Joshua Zirkzee has also impressed recently and his work rate will be vital against a powerful Arsenal defense. If United are to take something from this game, the Red Devils will need to be clinical going forward and move the ball quickly on the counter. Defensively, United have missed Lisandro Martinez, who is out with a long-term injury, and Harry Maguire’s status for Sunday is still unclear. The Red Devils will need to limit errors at the back, which have plagued them in recent weeks, and operate as a secure defensive unit. In goal, Andre Onana will surely be called into action against an Arsenal attack that just put seven goals past PSV midweek.

13 points behind first-place Liverpool but with a game in hand, Arsenal are not mathematically out of the Premier League title race, but a lot will have to go right for them to lift the coveted trophy in May. The Gunners are winless in their last two league matches, but a 7-1 rout of PSV in the Champions League on Tuesday will have Mikel Arteta’s men fired up for a clash at Old Trafford. With Kai Havertz out for the season and Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli still not fit to play, Arsenal will likely turn yet again to a strikerless lineup against United. Martin Ødegaard will be crucial in breaking down the Red Devils’ defense with his creativity and two goals from him against PSV will have Arsenal fans hoping he can regain his best form. Despite playing out of position, Mikel Merino has three goals in his last four matches in his new forward role. Supporting Merino will be the experienced Leandro Trossard and rising star Ethan Nwaneri, who both netted midweek as well. Defensively, Arsenal have kept the third most clean sheets this season with 10 so far, including two in their last three Premier League matches. The Gunners center-back partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel are one of the strongest in the league, and David Raya behind them has been in great form recently. Against a United attack struggling to score goals, Arsenal’s defense could keep another clean sheet and help their team secure all three points.
