Baltimore Ravens vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The two-time defending Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs, are coming into the season with a lot of their key players still in place. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Rashee Rice, defensive tackle Chris Jones, and more are ready to hit the field. The Chiefs were the favorites to win the Super Bowl and showed the world they can talk the talk and walk the walk. Now, they look to make a dominant football dynasty with a third consecutive Super Bowl win in the 2024-2025 season.
Over the 2023 regular season, Mahomes threw for 4,183 passing yards and completed 27 touchdowns across 16 games. Running back Isiah Pacheco picked up 935 rushing yards, the most on the team, and Kelce was Mahomes’ top target, generating 984 receiving yards. The Kansas City Chiefs were able to defeat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime to clench the Super Bowl win, defeating the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Ravens along the way. For the ‘24 season, the Chiefs have resigned center Creed Humphrey and defensive end Malik Herring — and have signed wide receivers Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster. They have also added a few rookies to the mix to make an impact, including wide receiver Xavier Worthy (Texas) and offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia (BYU). Coach Andy Reid and the team are here to show the world they mean business.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are heading to Kansas City after the 17-10 AFC Championship loss that prevented them competing for the Super Bowl ring. The last time the Ravens won the Super Bowl was back in 2012, and Coach John Harbaugh just can’t seem to get the team back to the Big Game. Maybe this season will be their chance — it doesn’t hurt that they have the ‘23 NFL Most Valuable Player to help them out.
The 2023 Ravens had a better regular season record than the Chiefs, ending 13-4 over the weeks. Lamar Jackson put up 3,678 passing yards, completed 24 touchdowns, and was the team's rushing leader with 821 yards over 16 games. Wide receiver Zay Flowers was the top receiver with 858 receiving yards. The Ravens have added rookies cornerback Nate Wiggins (Clemson), tackle Roger Rosengarten (Washington), and wide receiver Devontez Walker (North Carolina) to their depth. They acquired Heisman Trophy-winning running back Derrick Henry from the Tennessee Titans to switch up their offensive line and resigned linebacker Kyle Van Noy. It’s important to note that Jackson is 1-4 when facing off against the Chiefs, but the potential is endless for the Baltimore Ravens this year heading into NFL Kickoff.
As of today, the Ravens have no starters on the injury report, while the Chiefs have a few. This could change the outcome of the game, but whatever happens tonight may impact the rest of the season for each team. It’s sure to be a phenomenal matchup.
