The Traitors Season 3 Episode 6 Recap
Witnessing the messiest Traitors trifecta calls for a big tub of popcorn.
It’s getting deliciously messy for The Traitors, and we’ve got a front row seat (with popcorn) for all the drama. As expected, the Traitors trifecta have turned on each other – and you know it’s especially bad when Boston Rob is left speechless. Despite all the tension in the turret, someone will be murdered and someone else will be banished. But is it yet another Faithful or has the luck run out on a Traitor?
Here’s what happened on The Traitors’ sixth episode of Season 3, “A Dysfunctional Family.”
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Tension in the Turret (Again)
“There’s nobody I want to murder other than you two right now.” That’s how Carolyn Wiger sums up the disaster that is this Traitor “alliance,” if you can even call it that, after the Survivor veteran learned that Danielle Reyes was clumsily throwing out her name to try and blindside her. And well, Boston Rob is Boston Rob, so no explanation is needed there. They’ll be lucky enough to survive another week intact... if that’s what they even want, which now seems like a hard no.
Danielle weakly tries to walk back her failed plan to backstab Carolyn, ironically bringing up that they must stick together because they need to agree on a player to murder (since they can’t murder each other). So, a temporary truce is forged.
Who Do the Traitors Murder?
It’s so awkward in the turret that watching the Traitors push their real feelings aside to decide which Faithful to murder is almost comical. Naturally, those who appear to be onto Boston Rob’s mind games, such as Wes Bergman and Bob Harper, are bandied about, along with less dangerous players like Sir Ivar Mountbatten. Their reasoning for targeting Ivar: He’s so Faithful coded that there’s no way anyone will ever banish him.
Somehow, the three Traitors come to an agreement on who must go: It’s Bob H., who correctly called out Boston Rob’s chess moves in a previous roundtable, which made him a liability to his game.
The Mission Adds a Wrinkle
The episode’s mission goes off without a hitch, with three groups of players prioritizing shields over adding money to the pot. When the groups locate a shield, only one player can take it, but the other members agree to keep the identity of the shield-holder secret in exchange for an umbrella of protection. It’s a smart-ish move, though the three players who have safety are Carolyn, Chrishell Stause (who wins rock, paper, scissors for it), and Dylan Efron.
Fireworks at the Roundtable
Shields or not, there’s bigger fish to fry post-mission. There’s growing sentiment among the players, led by Derrick Levasseur and Wes, that Boston Rob is 100% a Traitor because of how he engineered Bob the Drag Queen’s banishment. But getting out a talented gameplayer like Boston Rob isn’t going to be easy. Derrick and Wes scheme behind the scenes to ensure that they have the votes to pull off a potentially epic move at the roundtable later that evening, and it seems like they’re well-positioned to pull it off. As they inform players they feel would be on board with the plan, the numbers appear to be there – only they couldn’t have planned for Chrishell to scurry off to tell Boston Rob that something is up. It’s the heads up he needs to mount an indestructible defense.
There’s also the subplot of Danielle vs. Carolyn that’s been brewing for several episodes, and a more inconsequential face-off between Tom Sandoval and Dolores Catania. The roundtable begins with Tom and Dolores hemming and hawing over their disagreements, wasting valuable time over their very off observations about each other. And there’s a moment when Danelle and Carolyn go at each other’s throats. Thankfully, Derrick takes the reins when he begins to sense the discussion going off the rails and presents an intriguing case against keeping Boston Rob. Unfortunately for Derrick, Boston Rob is ready to defend the accusations, suggesting that the Traitors (of which he is one) are using him as a scapegoat so that he can take the fall. The only player who can pull that kind of elaborate ruse off, Boston Rob argues, is Wes.
Talk about a shocking turn of events. Wes is also a gamer, so he’s prepared to go toe to toe with Boston Rob, reminding everyone when this whole debacle began – back at the statue mission when Bob the Drag Queen mentioned that one of the new guys (Wes, Boston Rob, and Derrick) is likely a Traitor. He’s right, of course, but the other players don’t know that. Wes makes a veiled threat that he will be coming for whoever votes against him. By now, time has run out, leaving it up to the vote to determine if Boston Rob or Wes will be walking out the castle doors.
Who Is Banished?
The vote ends up being a close one, despite there being throwaways with Dolores voting for Tom (sure) and Carolyn casting her vote against Danielle (expected). The other votes are split between Boston Rob and Wes, and as the vote count begins to crystallize, there’s hope that Derrick and Wes’ plan may actually work. That sliver of hope dies a spectacular death when Wes ends up receiving seven votes to Boston Rob’s five, and Wes shows himself out the door with some memorable final words: “F**k all you guys!”
Are the Traitors Going After Their Own?
In the aftermath of the banishment vote, Derrick is concerned that he’ll be the next player murdered. Luckily for him, the Traitors have to contend with their own dysfunction first. As the Traitors enter the turret once more, Carolyn boldly declares that they must go after Danielle – the development stuns Boston Rob, who’s so shocked by this his jaw literally drops and he has no comeback. Carolyn’s done playing nice and she’s seen through Danielle’s shady ways. With Boston Rob’s game on life support and Danielle’s weakened strategy, the power could be shifting in Carolyn’s favor. "This is a disaster,” Boston Rob concludes. And we’ll be here devouring every second of it.
