How to Watch Ohio State vs. Oregon: Stream on Peacock LIVE, Schedule, Kickoff Time
Big Ten Saturday Night brings you weekly battles all season long from the hottest conference in the country. This week it’s time to get loud as the Buckeyes go on the road against the Ducks.
It has been a truly unpredictable season in the Big Ten so far. With new teams from the West Coast joining the fray, and former powerhouses at the start of a rebuild, the conference looks very different than it did in 2023. The two best-ranked teams in the Big Ten both have undefeated seasons so far. That (along with at least one ranking) will soon change when No. 2 Ohio State faces No. 3 Oregon on Big Ten Saturday Night.
Ohio State (2) vs. Oregon (3)
Ohio State (5–0) visits Oregon for the first time since 1967, though the two teams have faced each other a few times since then. Ohio State has traditionally won this matchup, with a total of nine wins to Oregon’s one. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, that one loss came from their most recent matchup. Head coach Ryan Day may have a stellar 61–8 record, but one of those eight losses came at the hands of the Oregon Ducks in 2021. This being college football though, anything that happened four years ago doesn’t matter. The Buckeyes’ head coach may not have changed, but everything else has.
Notably, quarterback Will Howard is having a phenomenal year. He hasn’t been perfect, but he’s been able to unleash explosive plays when it counts. This season, he’s completed 71.5 percent of his passes for 12 touchdowns and only three interceptions. While Howard has been putting up those points, the defense has been more than holding up their end. They may be the best defense in college football this year, allowing the fewest points and yards per game. If they can shut Oregon down like that, the Buckeyes will come out on top.
Oregon (5–0) has an offense almost purpose-built to give a defense like Ohio State’s trouble. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel has a 77.8 percent completion rate, the best in the nation, and he gets the ball out quick. That’s not his only trick, either. This team loves the Run-Pass Option, and Gabriel is good at keeping incoming defenders on their toes. Wide receivers Tez Johnson, Traeshon Holden, and Even Stewart are dangerous when they get open. And if all three are covered, Gabriel will just run the ball himself.
Ohio State’s defense will be the toughest test the Ducks have had all season. Oregon’s offensive line has led to struggles in recent games, and the Buckeyes will be eager to take advantage of that. Still, Oregon will have some serious home field advantage. Autzen Stadium is uniquely loud, and with the team as good as they are, the fans will be trying to give their team every edge they can. The Ducks are also the first ranked opponent for Ohio State this season, so we’ve yet to see how they perform against a team this tough. If Gabriel can get the ball out quick, and the Ducks’ running game can beat Ohio State’s defense, Oregon has a shot at taking the whole conference.
