Week 13 of the NFL season brings us another thriller on Sunday Night Football. End the long weekend with Sunday's biggest game as we head to Orchard Park, NY where the San Francisco 49ers take on the Buffalo Bills.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Buffalo Bills

The 49ers (5–6, 4th in NFC West) have not had the season they hoped for after making it to the Super Bowl last season. They started the season strong with a win over the Jets but lost their next two to the Vikings and Rams. Now, they’re coming off back-to-back losses after falling to the Green Bay Packers 38–10 last week. Many of those losses can be chalked up to injuries. Star running back Christian McCaffrey sat out the first eight games of the season, before returning for a win over the Buccaneers. One week later, quarterback Brock Purdy sustained an injury against the Seahawks that kept him out of the following game against Green Bay. He returned to practice this week, and the 49ers are hopeful he’ll play, but his status hasn’t been decided at time of writing. If Purdy doesn’t play, backup quarterback Brandon Allen will need to improve on his one-touchdown, two-turnover performance from last week.

Despite their record and the injuries that have plagued this team, they aren’t that far from turning the season around. When Purdy’s healthy, the offense marches the ball down the field with efficiency. They’ve struggled to score once they get in the red zone, but as McCaffrey gets comfortable again, those issues should disappear. Defensive end Nick Bosa and tackle Trent Williams are still day-to-day, but once they return to the field, the 49ers defense should return to terrifying form quickly. The 49ers do have one of the toughest remaining schedules in the league, but it’s not too late for them to make a late postseason run. And nothing would light a fire under this team like a Sunday night win in Buffalo.

The Bills (9–2, 1st in AFC East) are looking to take the top AFC seed from the Kansas City Chiefs, which is difficult, but looks more doable every week. Especially after they beat the Chiefs two weeks ago before entering their bye. Now fresh off a week of rest, the Bills hope to grow their winning streak to seven games when they welcome the 49ers to western New York this Sunday. Their only two losses this season have come against two other AFC powerhouses, the Ravens and the Texans. This team has been good in past years, but might just be having their best season since Josh Allen became their starting quarterback. They’re only getting healthier too, with defensive tackle DeWayne Carter, tight end Dalton Kincaid, and wide receivers Amari Cooper and Keon Coleman all due to come back from injury.

For his part, Allen looks better than ever this season. Already the frontrunner for MVP, the Bills QB has been making his trademark runs and showstopping passes without anywhere near the number of turnovers that have plagued him in previous seasons. So far, he’s thrown for 2,543 yards and 18 touchdowns with only five interceptions. That’s a huge improvement over last year’s total of 18 interceptions, and there are only six games left in the season. This team is rolling and to win on Sunday night, they just have to keep doing what they’re doing. The weather might also work in the Bills’ favor on Sunday. With Orchard Park under a severe winter weather watch this weekend, we might have a snow game on our hands. In addition to making for great football in general, the Bills have historically done very well in the cold. No matter what happens on Sunday, we know this Buffalo team is going to make it fun.
