Chicago Bears vs. Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football
The Bears (2-5, 4th in NFC North) didn’t have the start to the season they hoped for. They lost their first four games, including a 31–28 fall to the Denver Broncos. Luck seemed to turn around for Chicago the following week though, with a 40–20 win over the Washington Commanders. Following a loss to a tough Vikings team, the Bears picked up their second win of the season last week, beating the Las Vegas Raiders 30–12. The Bears’ season is far from over. Their two wins were by big margins. When this team cooks, they look good. This week’s game should be extra fun for Bears fans as they get to see the primetime debut of Quarterback Tyson Bagent. Starting QB Justin Fields is still recovering from a thumb injury, so it’s still Bagent’s show in Los Angeles. Coming from a Division II college, Bagent impressed with his performance in the Bear’s win against the Raiders last week. His throws were on target with no interceptions and one touchdown. If that trend continues, he could be one of the year’s feel-good success stories. Of course, Running Back D’Onta Foreman’s big plays are definitely helping Bagent out here. Plus, the Bears defense is getting better every week. It’s impossible to count them out this early as they head west on Sunday night.
The Chargers (2-4, 3rd in AFC West) are coming off a big 31–17 loss to the Chiefs, their divisional rival. There’s no shame in losing to a team as dominant as the Chiefs, but that had to sting. They’ll be playing hungry at home this weekend. Like the Bears, the Chargers have only won two games so far this season, but those wins include a 28–24 upset of the Vikings followed by a 24–17 win over another divisional rival in the Raiders. Despite what their record says, this is a dangerous team. Their run defense has been improving every week, which will make things tough on a Chicago team that, with an undrafted rookie at QB, relies heavily on the run. There’s a ton of talent on defense, and they’re not going to let the Bears get away with much on home turf. Quarterback Justin Herbert has the weapons at his disposal to put points on the board, and Running Back Austin Ekeler remains focused on the job in front of him. This team sees Sunday night as a must-win, and that’s going to make things awfully hard for their opponent.
