Week 14 of the NFL season brings us another thriller on Sunday Night Football. End the weekend with Sunday's biggest game as we head to Kansas City, MO where the Los Angeles Chargers take on the hometown Chiefs.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chargers (8–4, 2nd in AFC West) have had a fantastic first season under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. In almost any other division, they’d be on top right now. Unfortunately for them, they share the AFC West with the dominant Kansas City Chiefs. They’re three games behind their AFC West rivals, and they have a chance to cut into that lead this Sunday. The way they’ve been playing, the Chargers have a real shot at making the playoffs even if they don’t win the division. They’ve only lost one game in the last month and are coming off a big win over the NFC South-leading Falcons. That’s a huge improvement over where they were in December of last year. A lot of that is due to revamped defensive strategy that’s greatly improved their pass defense. This team makes it difficult to gain yards through the air, while putting just enough pressure on opposing quarterbacks that they don’t have time to wait for an open man downfield. This defense is also one of the best in the league at creating turnovers. They’ll need all the defensive prowess they can summon if they’re going to stop Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday.

This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. The last time they met was a Week 4 matchup in Los Angeles that the Chargers lost 10–17. This is a very different Chargers team, though. Offensive Tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater are healthy this week, giving quarterback Justin Herbert some much-needed protection. The more this team plays together, the better they get. This Chargers team is much more cohesive and on the same page than the one the Chiefs faced earlier this season. If the defense keeps giving the offense more opportunities to play, the Chargers could get revenge over a big rival on Sunday night.

The Chiefs (11–1, 1st in AFC West) are not unstoppable, but look really close. Their only loss this season was a nailbiter against the Bills two weeks ago. For better or worse, “nailbiter” could describe many of their games this season. The Chiefs are way out in front of the AFC West, but a lot of those wins were closer than we might expect from a team with their record. Their last two wins came 19–17 over the Raiders and 30–27 over the Panthers. This team has consistently been able to get the job done, but they’ve seen their share of struggles this season. (Well, as much as a Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs team can struggle.) Much of that can be attributed to issues on the offensive line. Mahomes has been sacked 32 times already this season, more than any other season since he started playing. He’s facing more pressure than ever, and that’s limiting the Chiefs’ ability to run up the score. It’s also affected tight end Travis Kelce’s production, limiting him to only two touchdowns so far this season.

It’s still the Chiefs though, and it’s still Patrick Mahomes. No matter how dire the situation looks, (and really, he’s kept it from getting too dire in any game), this team finds a way to pull it out. They’ll get some help this weekend with left tackle D.J. Humphries being cleared to start this Sunday. He’ll give Mahomes enough protection that we might see those big Kelce plays and deep-ball receptions again. With Deandre Hopkins, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Xavier Worthy at wide receiver, this Chiefs offense can be dangerous if Mahomes gets time to throw. That could be all that’s needed to rack up a twelfth win on Sunday Night Football.
