Yep, We’re Officially Getting a ‘Community’ Movie
We did it, Abed!
Six seasons and a movie! Six seasons and a movie! Peacock has heard Community fans’ rallying cry — and Abed’s catchphrase in “Paradigms of Human Memory” — and officially greenlit a Community movie.
It’s a perfect feather in the cap of NBC’s long-running cult classic, which officially concluded in 2015, and introduced millions to the wonders of meta-humor.
Original stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong are all set to reunite for the forthcoming project, and creator Dan Harmon and executive producer Andrew Guest are also attached.
“‘Six seasons and a movie’ started out as a cheeky line from Community’s early seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious, and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy,” said Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We’re incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to deliver fans this promised movie and can’t wait to get to work with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony, and our partners at UTV to continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences.”
As if that weren’t enough, Peacock will be acquiring the full series library of Community, too. This means class is back in session and you’ll want to get to work cramming all six seasons (and 110 episodes) before your sitcom recall is put to the ultimate test with the movie counterpart.
Neither here nor there, is it…starting to feel like our NBC shows are getting a little too good at predicting the future? (See also: 30 Rock predicting deep-fakes, clear dishwashers, and voice-activated TV) We’ll let that one sit with you.
