Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football
The Eagles (10–2, 1st in NFC East) are in great shape as they face a divisional rival in hostile territory. Though they’ve taken two big losses, those are the only ones they’ve taken. Quarterback Jalen Hurts can find gaps in opponents’ pass rush to buy himself enough time to make a deep completion downfield. And if a defense is able to take away his downfield options, Hurts’ checkdown passes are actually dangerous. If this team gets nine yards withing three downs, all it takes is one brotherly shove to keep the offense on the field. This team runs that play better than anyone else in the league, largely because of Hurts’ raw lower-body power, and also because of the Eagles’ phenomenal offensive line. Center Jason Kelce creates a wall in front of Hurts, buying him enough time to find a receiver or run the ball himself. This team has looked unstoppable all season long, with two notable exceptions. The first was a 20–14 loss to the Jets that immediately looked like a fluke bad week. The second was last week’s game: A 42–19 rout by the 49ers. That one is more concerning. The 49ers think they’ve found a blueprint for shutting down Jalen Hurts, including stopping the Brotherly Shove — one the Cowboys could apply this week. It’s important to remember though that the 49ers have one of the best defenses in the league. Their performance last week will be hard for any team to replicate. Especially one that the Eagles have beaten once already this season.
The Cowboys (9-3, 2nd in NFC East) have won their last four games straight. They have serious momentum behind them as they look to split the series against the Eagles. Things just seem to be clicking for the Cowboys late in the season. Quarterback Dak Prescott is playing some of the best football of his career. If he stays on his feet, his quick, accurate passes make short work of opposing secondaries. Helping him out at Running Back is Tony Pollard, who is becoming more of a threat every week. With the Cowboys now able to consistently run the ball, they can spread defenses even thinner, opening up more opportunities to get downfield and score. The 2023 Dallas Cowboys are beasts, and they’ll stay in the game right up until the end. The only area of concern against the Eagles is the offensive line. They’ve been getting better recently, but the last time these teams met, the Eagles defense was able to get past them and sack Prescott five times. If they’ve been able to close those holes in the last month though, Prescott will lead this team to a Sunday Night Football win.
