Week 12 of the NFL season brings us another thriller on Sunday Night Football. End the day with the biggest game of the week as we head to Inglewood, CA where the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Los Angeles Rams

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Los Angeles Rams

The Eagles (8–2, 1st in NFC East) have dominated their division, beating an especially good Commanders team just last week. It is true that their wins haven’t all been pretty, but the Eagles have never played pretty football. This is the team that became known for the Brotherly Shove, where they collectively force quarterback Jalen Hurts over the line. It’s scrappy, hard-nosed football that fits a scrappy, hard-nosed city. The offense may have struggled to get going early in the season, but they’ve been consistently great the last few weeks. Especially with running back Saquon Barkley. The former Giants star has been putting on a show week after week with explosive, earth-shaking runs. Barkley has eight touchdowns so far this season, but 1,137 rushing yards. The only reason his touchdown count isn’t higher is that he’s so good at getting the team in a position where a Hurts tush push is all that’s needed.

Philly might be more careful with Hurts this week though. The quarterback was limited in practice with an ankle injury, and while he’s expected to play on Sunday, the team needs to keep him healthy if they want a deep playoff run. They might be out wide receiver DeVonta Smith this week too, as he missed practice this week with a hamstring injury. Whether he plays or not, the Eagles will rely on their outstanding offensive line to protect Hurts long enough for the wide receivers to get open. If they can withstand the Rams’ defensive front, Philly will add a seventh game to their already impressive winning streak.

The Rams (5–5, 2nd in NFC West) are in one of the more unpredictable divisions in the league. Three of the four NFC West teams have the same 5–5 record, with the Arizona Cardinals being only one game ahead of everyone else. Any given week can shake up the playoff picture at this point. The Rams may be the best .500 team in the division now though. They started the season with five straight losses and are now on a five-game winning streak. The most recent win came against a Patriots team that has found their groove with a hot rookie quarterback. Rams QB Matthew Stafford is no rookie, but he’s played some phenomenal football over the last five weeks. He’s thrown for 2,557 yards this season with 13 touchdowns. Most of the Rams’ early season struggles could be chalked up to the absences of wide receivers Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp. Since their return against the Vikings, the Rams offense has been near unstoppable.

The Rams’ defensive line has been another bright spot this season, and they’ll be key to beating the Eagles on Sunday. L.A. has one of the best pass rushes in the league, and if they can shut down Hurts early and often, Stafford is more than capable of outscoring Philly. The real question is, how well will they do against Barkley? Few defenses have been able to contain the Eagles’ running back, especially when they have to make sure Hurts doesn’t run the ball himself. This is a young and energetic defensive front, though. They can get off the line as fast as anyone and make everything the offense tries to do that much harder.  It won’t be easy, but the faster this defense can get off the field, the better chance the Rams have of taking the win at home.
