How to Watch Atlanta Falcons vs. Washington Commanders on Peacock LIVE, Schedule, Kickoff Time
With only a few weeks left in the 2024-25 NFL Season, every Sunday Night Football game feels that much bigger. Cap off the weekend with a massive matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the Washington Commanders.
Week 17 of the NFL season brings us another thriller on Sunday Night Football. End the weekend with Sunday's biggest game as we head to Landover, MD where the Atlanta Falcons take on the Washington Commanders.
Atlanta Falcons vs. Washington Commanders
The Falcons (8–7, 1st in NFC South) are back out in front of their division after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers narrowly lost to the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday night. They’re not free and clear yet, but if they win their final two games of the regular season, they will take the NFC South title for the first time since 2016. Their last game of the season is against the 4–6 Carolina Panthers, so it may all be riding on this Sunday night’s contest. This will be a tough one too, going into enemy territory with both teams fighting to secure playoff spots. We’re not in the Wild Card round yet, but this Sunday is going to feel like it.
This will be a real test for rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr., drafted in the first round last April to sit behind veteran Kirk Cousins for most of the year. After Cousins appeared to hit a slump in previous weeks, Atlanta decided to see if their rookie could carry them into the postseason. So far, it’s looking good. Last week against the New York Giants, he led the Falcons to a 34–7 victory. The team did see more dropped passes in that game, but that can be expected when a new QB and wide receivers are getting used to each other. The more chances this team gets to work together, the better they’ll become. Penix may not have had any passing touchdowns against New York, but he got the team in position for running back Bijan Robinson to punch the ball in. Twice. The team will also rely on their defense to keep the Commanders in check. The Falcons defense nabbed two pick-six touchdowns against the Giants and will be hungry for more against another NFC East foe. This game is likely a must-win for the Falcons to make the playoffs. If Penix stays cool under the pressure, and the defense stays hot, they could walk out on top this Sunday night.
The Commanders (10–5, 2nd in NFC East) have the fifth best record in the NFC East. Right now, they hold the last NFC Wild Card spot and can lock it up with a win on Sunday night. If recent weeks are anything to go by, they are more than up to the challenge. So far, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is proving to be the best QB selected in the 2024 draft. He’s thrown for 3,303 yards and 22 touchdowns this season with eight interceptions. Plus, he just led the team to a thrilling win over the division-leading Eagles last week.
This matchup may be even tougher than last week’s, though. Not only will they be facing a starting QB, one that they only have one NFL game’s worth of tape on, Washington will likely be out some big playmakers this Sunday. Wide receiver Noah Brown has been on Injured Reserve since Week 13, and now Dyami Brown is questionable to play after suffering a hamstring injury against the Eagles. Terry McLaurin also didn’t practice this week with an ankle injury. The good news for the Commanders is WRs Olamide Zaccheaus and Jamison Crowder looked phenomenal against the Eagles, hauling in a touchdown each. They are healthy and will be eager to tear up the Atlanta defense this Sunday. If they do, we could see the Commanders lock up a playoff spot this Sunday night.
