Ohio State vs. Michigan State: College Football on Peacock
No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes, the top ranked team in the country in the College Football Playoff rankings, knocked off the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 35-16 last weekend behind two touchdown catches by Heisman Trophy candidate Marvin Harrison Jr. He leads the conference in receiving yards (914) and is tied for the lead with an impressive ten touchdowns this season. The son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison — who won Super Bowl XLI with Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts — caught three touchdowns versus Michigan State last season. That was his third time accomplishing that feat, breaking a school record. Quarterback Kyle McCord ranks second in the Big Ten in passing yards (1352). Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day is 4-0 vs Michigan State as a head coach, with his teams outscoring the Spartans 191-49 in those games. Ohio State will play Minnesota next week before closing out the regular season vs. archrival Michigan Wolverines at the Big House Thanksgiving weekend. Both teams are currently undefeated and ranked inside the top 5 (Michigan currently ranked No. 2).
Michigan State defeated Nebraska 20-17 last weekend on Senior Day to snap a six-game losing streak. Quarterback Sam Leavitt threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr with 12:13 remaining in the fourth quarter to take a 20-10 lead and ultimately held on for the victory. Spartans RB Nathan Carter ranks third in the Big Ten in rushing (659 yards). Michigan State is looking to knock off the Buckeyes for the first time since 2015, when the Spartans beat No. 2 Ohio State 17-14 at Ohio Stadium. They went on to win the Big Ten Championship and clinched a berth in the College Football Playoff. The Spartans have been here and done that before, knocking off Ohio Stars five times in the past when they were ranked in the top five of the AP Top 25 poll (No. 5 in 1972, No. 1 in 1974, No. 1 in 1998, No. 2 in 2013, No. 2 in 2015).
Ohio State leads the all-time series 36-15. Ohio State has won three consecutive games over Michigan State in Columbus and a victory would tie its longest streak in the series at eight wins (1975-84).
