After a 2–2 draw last weekend between Arsenal and Liverpool, Manchester City now sit firmly in first place on the table, one point above Liverpool and five points above Arsenal. If City want to claim all three points away from home, they will rely on Haaland to regain his goalscoring form.  

Arguably one of Man City’s early nominees for player of the season, Joško Gvardiol has been critical to the team’s early success. With two goals in his last four games and important contributions defensively, Gvardiol is a powerful threat on the left side of the field. City will need him to bring width and run in behind the left wing to create scoring chances for the team. The biggest question mark for City in this match will be the midfield. Selecting a unique midfield three in their last five Premier League matches, Pep Guardiola is renowned for changing his starting lineup week to week. With that in mind, whether it’s a combination of Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic, Ilkay Gündogan, or Rico Lewis, filling the void left by the absent Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne will be crucial against a Bournemouth side that have a lot of pace on the counter. 

On the other hand, Bournemouth sit in 11th place in the Premier League table, level on points and goal difference with Fulham in 10th.  After nine games, Bournemouth have three wins, three draws, and three losses, their most notable performance being a 2-0 victory against Arsenal at home back in Matchweek 8. They followed up that triumph with a draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park last weekend, courtesy of a last-minute equalizer by Evanilson, their new summer signing. With four points from two games against two of the best teams in the league, Bournemouth will feel confident competing with the champions, especially at home with their fans behind them.

Antoine Semenyo has been Bournemouth’s biggest bright spark this season with three goals and one assist so far. His creativity and ability to beat defenders one-on-one will be vital in catching Man City on the break. If he can get into threatening positions in the final third, the quality of Semenyo’s delivery into the box, along with that of his counterpart Dango Ouattara, will be paramount for Bournemouth to score. In addition to relying on the counter, Bournemouth will need its back line to be stout against a suffocating City attack. Marcos Senesi has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League this season and the team will rely on him together with Illia Zabarnyi to keep Haaland quiet, which is no easy feat. If the defensive unit can remain firm and the team takes advantage of their opportunities on the counter, Bournemouth will have every chance to take points from this game.
