With Aston Villa four points in front of Brentford, a win for the Bees would move them only one point behind the Villans. Unbeaten in their last three Premier League games, Brentford find themselves only six points behind sixth-place Newcastle and five points behind seventh-place Bournemouth, giving them an outside chance of achieving European football for next season. A victory against Villa would be crucial in building momentum for a late-season push. In a year that was marked by the departure of talisman Ivan Toney, Brentford have exceeded expectations this season without their former star forward. Led by Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, Brentford’s attack has been electric, scoring the sixth-most goals in the entire league so far. Mikkel Damsgaard has chipped in as well with 10 assists, tied for second-most in the league with Bukayo Saka and behind Mohamed Salah’s 17. Brentford will need this trio to be firing on all cylinders against an Aston Villa defense that has been prone to conceding goals. Defensively, Brentford have been roughly in the middle of the pack in terms of clean sheets with only five so far this season. Mark Flekken has performed respectably in goal since the departure of David Raya, and Nathan Collins has served as a strong presence at the back. Brentford’s defense will need to be secure against a threatening Villa attack headlined by Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers if they hope to win in front of their home fans. 

Despite advancing to the quarter finals of the FA Cup and winning their first leg against Club Brugge in the Champions League Round of 16, Aston Villa find themselves in 10th on the Premier League table. After finishing in 4th place last year, the Villans have struggled for consistency this season, which is to be expected given the extra focus the team has placed on Champions League success. Despite sitting in 10th, Villa are only four points behind Chelsea in 5th place, which may be enough for a Champions League berth next season. A victory away from home against Brentford will not be easy, but it would be a crucial three points for Villa. To do so, the Villans will rely on star forward Ollie Watkins to lead the line. With Jhon Duran leaving for Saudi Arabia in January, the pressure has been on Watkins to sustain Villa’s attacking threat. Despite being scoreless in his last four games in all competitions, Watkins has impressed with his interplay, collecting two assists. However, he will look to regain his goal-scoring form against Brentford. January arrivals Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio have enjoyed a fantastic start to their Aston Villa tenures. With five goals in his last three games, Asensio has been on fire of late. Rashford has looked like his old self with three assists in his last four matches and his presence on the left wing has been terrifying for defenders. This trio combined with arguably Villa’s best performer this season Morgan Rogers make the Villans’ attack a constant threat every time they go forward. Defensively, Aston Villa have struggled to keep clean sheets this season with only two in all competitions in 2025 so far. The return of Tyrone Mings from injury has been a big boost and Emiliano Martinez has been a superb shot-stopper this year. If Villa can keep Mbeumo and Wissa quiet, they can take all three points from this one.
