There isn’t anything better than watching football with your family on Thanksgiving with a full plate of turkey. The 2024 NFL season continues Thanksgiving Day when the Miami Dolphins visit the Green Bay Packers.
Week 13 of the 2024 NFL season brings an exciting matchup between two playoff-hopeful teams on Thanksgiving Day. Celebrate the holiday with a showdown at Lambeau Field between the Miami Dolphins and the Green Bay Packers.
Miami Dolphins vs. Green Bay Packers
The Miami Dolphins (5-6, 2nd in AFC East) are on a three-game winning streak and have catapulted themselves into playoff contention. With an impressive away win against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 10 and comfortable victories against the Las Vegas Raiders and the New England Patriots the last two weeks, the Dolphins are hitting their stride at the perfect time. A large reason for this run has been the resurgence of the Miami offense, headlined by Tua Tagovailoa’s return from a four-game absence on injured reserve. In the five games since Tagovailoa’s return, the Dolphins have averaged a staggering 29 points per game as opposed to a meager 10 points per game during his stint on IR.
With five games now under his belt since a scary early-season injury, Tagovailoa has been looking like his old self again. In his last two games, he has thrown for seven touchdowns, zero interceptions, and 605 yards. As a result, the Dolphins’ main offensive weapons have begun to shine again. Although many would think Tyreek Hill would have been the one to benefit the most from Tua’s return, De’Von Achane has been the brightest spark. With six total touchdowns in his last five games, Achane has become a powerful dual-threat running back. His speed and ability as a receiving back have terrorized opponents’ defenses in recent weeks. In addition to Achane, Jonnu Smith and Jaylen Waddle have had big games recently as well. With three touchdowns, 15 receptions, and 188 yards on 19 targets, Smith has exploded in his last two games. He has quickly become one of Tagovailoa’s favorite targets. Waddle, relatively quiet so far this season by his standards, broke out this past weekend against the Patriots for eight receptions, 144 yards, and a touchdown. With the offense firing on all cylinders, the Miami Dolphins hope to continue their recent success and move to 6-6 on Thanksgiving night.
The Green Bay Packers (8-3, 3rd in NFC North) have won back-to-back games in impressive fashion since their bye week. With a game-winning field goal block against the Chicago Bears and a blowout victory over the San Francisco 49ers, the Packers have improved their playoff chances in recent weeks in a difficult NFC North division. Despite being 8-3, the Packers are still third in arguably one of the toughest divisions in football. They hope to further solidify their spot in the playoffs with a win against the Dolphins on Thanksgiving.
With 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions heading into Week 13, quarterback Jordan Love has struggled for consistency so far this season. Love has thrown an interception in every game he’s played this year except this past weekend’s victory over the 49ers. With the Dolphins offense in red-hot form, Love will need to avoid giving them any field-position advantages with costly turnovers. Thankfully, the run game for the Packers has been excellent. With four touchdowns and 188 yards across his last two games, running back Josh Jacobs has been exceptional. Jacobs has already accumulated 944 rushing yards on the season and 186 receiving yards to go along with his work on the ground. The Packers will look to him to help spark the offense on Thursday. In the receiving game, the Packers’ pass-catchers have been well-balanced over the course of the season. Jayden Reed leads all receivers on the team with 669 receiving yards, followed by Romeo Doubs with 483 yards, and Tucker Kraft with 402. With Doubs expected to miss this matchup due to a concussion, Jordan Love still has a plethora of options in the form of Jayden Reed, Tucker Kraft, Christian Watson, and Dontayvion Wicks. Given the ability of the Dolphins to put points on the board, the Packers offense will need to perform well if they hope to win and stay in the fight for the NFC North division title.
