How to Watch Liverpool v. Aston Villa: Stream on Peacock LIVE, Schedule, Kickoff Time
The 2024/25 Premier League season has been full of excitement and surprises through 10 games. The drama continues when Aston Villa visit Liverpool at Anfield in Matchweek 11.
Fresh off a 4-0 thumping of Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League this week, Liverpool are flying. However, they will face a tough test in the form of a talented Aston Villa side in a match they hope will cement their place atop the Premier League table.
Liverpool v. Aston Villa
Currently at the top of the table, Liverpool had a strong start to their first Premier League campaign under new manager Arne Slot. Slot has led the Reds to eight wins and 25 points in his first ten games, resulting in a two-point lead over rival Manchester City at the top of the PL table and a staggering seven-point early lead over contender Arsenal. Liverpool are in red hot form, unbeaten in their last 12 matches in all competitions since their mid-September loss to Nottingham Forest. They will need to maintain that consistency if they hope to beat Aston Villa this weekend. The Reds will look yet again to their main man Mohamed Salah to lead the attack against Villa. Salah has seven goals and five assists already this season, leading the league in total goal contributions. In addition to Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have been prolific in recent weeks with eight goals between them in their last three matches. If this front three can remain threatening this weekend, Aston Villa will struggle to keep them quiet. On the other side of the ball, Liverpool’s defense has been stout this season with five clean sheets and only six goals conceded in 10 games. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté have become one of the league’s most powerful center-back partnerships and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ability to pick teams apart when passing through the midfield has been invaluable. Caoimhin Kelleher has also filled in admirably at goal in the wake of Alisson Becker’s injury. With all cylinders firing right now for Liverpool, they’ll be confident they can grab all three points against Aston Villa this weekend.
Despite a relatively strong start to the campaign with four wins in their first five games, Aston Villa have only had one Premier League win since. Their most recent performance was a disappointing 4-1 defeat to top-four rival Tottenham Hotspur. The Villains led 1-0 at halftime only to concede four unanswered goals in the second half. Villa will be looking to bounce back from this recent run of poor form when they visit Anfield in arguably their toughest test so far. For Aston Villa to take something from this game, they will rely on star forward Ollie Watkins to lead the line against a physical Liverpool defense. Scoreless in his last two Premier League matches, Watkins has five goals in 10 appearances this season. Villa will need him to regain his goalscoring form at Anfield. With Watkins struggling for consistency, Morgan Rogers has been Aston Villa’s most dependable player. Becoming a mainstay in the squad this season, Rogers has three goals and two assists so far in the league. With his pace, power, and link-up play, Villa will look to him to create chances on the break against Liverpool. Two other players that will be pivotal for Aston Villa’s success at Anfield are Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Martinez. Tielemans seems to have regained his form from his Leicester City days and his calming presence in the middle of the field will be important for Villa to play out from the back. Meanwhile, Martinez will surely be busy in goal and Villa will need him to make save after save to keep them in the game. If Aston Villa can stave off the early pressure and take advantage of their opportunities on the counter, they will have a chance to take points on Saturday.
