How to Watch Man City v. Tottenham: Stream on Peacock LIVE, Schedule, Kickoff Time
Fresh off the international break, the Premier League returns this weekend for Matchweek 12. This week is headlined by a juicy Big Six matchup between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester City have lost four straight games in all competitions, marking Pep Guardiola’s worst losing streak in his entire managerial career. It won’t get any easier this weekend when City host Tottenham at the Etihad in a must-win fixture to keep their Premier League title aspirations alive.
Man City v. Tottenham
The international break couldn’t have come at a better time for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola. From being crushed 4-1 by Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League to blowing a late 1-0 lead over Brighton last time out in the the Premier League, City have been experiencing a run of form unlike anything in recent memory. Still, they only sit five points behind Liverpool at the top of the table, so it’s safe to say they’re not out of the title race just yet. With Pep signing a one-year contract extension earlier this week and various players returning from injury, City will be looking to build some momentum going into the busy festive period. They hope to start a strong run of form by taking all three points this weekend, but that will be no easy feat against a dangerous Tottenham side. To win this game, City will rely on their star forward Erling Haaland yet again to be prolific in front of goal. With four goals in two games over the international break and a goal against Brighton in their last league fixture, Haaland appears to have regained his scoring form from earlier in the season. City will need him to take full advantage of any scoring opportunity that presents itself. For Haaland to score, City’s creative play from the midfield and out wide will need to improve. With an extra week of rest, Manchester City hope that Kevin De Bruyne will be fit enough to start this weekend. He has the ability to reignite the creative spark that has been missing from the center of their midfield. Defensively, City also hope to welcome back John Stones, Ruben Dias, and Manuel Akanji from injury this weekend. Their defense has looked shaky over the last couple games so if any combination of the three are healthy enough to start this match, it will be a huge help against a potent Spurs attack.
Tottenham have struggled for consistency so far this season. Spurs have had their fair share of impressive wins, including a 3–0 victory over Man United at Old Trafford and a 4–1 victory over Aston Villa at home. Yet, they’ve also lost 1–0 against 18th place Crystal Palace and 2–1 at home against 17th place Ipswich. They have three wins and three losses in their last six Premier League games, and a visit to the Etihad could be an opportunity to turn their form around. With City losing their last four games, Spurs could very well snatch at least a point away from home. They will rely on forward and captain Heung-Min Son to spark the counter against City. With three goals and three assists in 11 Premier League matches, Son will hope to add to his tally in a fixture that he’s historically played well in (8 goals across 19 appearances in all competitions against Man City). In addition to Son, Spurs will need support from Dejan Kulusevski, who has been arguably their best player this season, and Dominic Solanke, who has struggled in his first season in London. On the other side of the ball, both of Tottenham’s first-choice center-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are nursing injuries and have not been confirmed for Saturday’s game against City. If neither play, Guglielmo Vicario will be vital for Spurs in keeping the team in the game.
