One of the most played sports internationally, golf hasn’t always been part of the Summer Olympics. The sport was introduced for Men and Women at the 1900 Olympics in Paris, was removed after the 1904 games, and made a return at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Now, 124 years later, it returns to the city it debuted in for only the fifth time ever in what is sure to be a must-watch event.

Team USA proved dominant at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with Xander Schauffele and Nelly Korda bringing home the Men’s and Women’s gold medals. Both athletes are returning to the course in Paris but will be put to the test as they go up against their fellow teammates and international opponents.

The stage is set for an exciting few days of competition. Every medal, every moment will be streaming live on Peacock.

When are the 2024 Paris Olympics Golf events?

The men’s rounds will take place daily from August 1–4 and the women’s events run August 7–10. See the full schedule below.

What venue will host golf?

Golf at the 2024 Paris Olympics will take place at Le Golf National. Located southwest of the Paris city center, this course is owned by the French Golf Federation and has hosted various professional golf tournaments over the years, including the 2018 Ryder Cup. With two 18-hole courses, players will be challenged on the way to gold.

How does qualifying work for Golf?

Only 60 men and 60 women can tee off for the chance for gold and the rosters are now finalized. Participating in the Olympics is based off a ranking system determined by list created by the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). The top 15 players internationally were given automatic eligibility, with no more than four representatives per country. After the top 15, players are eligible based on the Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR), with a maximum for two players from each eligible country that does not already have two or more players already secured in the top 15.

What are the rules for Golf at the Olympics?

The Men’s and Women’s events will be stroke play, with the players completing an 18-hole course four times over the course of four days. The number of shots taken will be counted and whoever has the lowest number of strokes after four days of competition wins.

Who is representing Team USA?

The United States has the most golfers of any nation heading to Paris, with four men and three women qualifying. All Team USA golfers fall within the top fifteen OWGR ranking.

On the men’s side, the overall number one rank and 2024 Masters Tournament Champion Scottie Scheffler will be hitting the course. Accompanying him are number three-ranked Xander Schauffele, winner of the 2020 Tokyo gold medal and 2024 PGA Championship; Wyndham Clark, ranked fifth; and Collin Morikawa, ranked seventh.

Nelly Korda, two-time Olympian and the gold medal winner at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is the number one overall rank for Women and will be returning to Paris as a member of Team USA. Joining her are number-two-ranked Lilia Vu, the 2023 LPGA Tour Player of the Year, and Rose Zhang, ranked ninth and the 2023 NCAA Division I Golf Champion.

Which international Olympians should I watch for?

Men’s ranked number two Rory McIlroy (Ireland), number six Viktor Hovland (Norway), and number eight Jon Rahm (Spain) are households name in the golf world and will be competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Other 2024 PGA Tour winners include Matsuyama Hideki (Japan), Matthieu Pavon (France), and Shane Lowry (Ireland).

On the women’s side, Ko Jin-Young, 2021 LPGA Player of the Year, and Amy Yang, 2024 KMPG Women’s PGA Championship winner, will both be representing South Korea, while former number one on the World Women’s Golf Ranking Yin Ruoning (China) will also be competing. Saso Yuka (Japan) and Hannah Green (Australia), who have both won tournaments this year on the LPGA Tour, are also athletes to look out for.
