The 2024 Summer Olympics are underway in Paris! Sometimes it’s not the veterans who end up on top of the podium, but the rookies. Here are a few rising stars that may be the ticket to gold for Team USA.

Tate Carew (Skateboarding)
At only 19, this prodigy is currently the number one world ranking in skateboarding and a favorite in the Men’s Park event. Carew has been a member of USA’s Skateboarding team since 2023 and won bronze at the 2023 World Skateboarding Championships. Team USA has yet to win gold for the sport, but that may change when Carew hits the park.

Quincy Wilson (Track & Field)
Not just one of the youngest members of Team USA, Quincy Wilson is the youngest male track & field athlete ever. Wilson crushed expectations at the Track & Field Trials, where he beat out other top contenders to earn his spot. Wilson is currently selected for the relay pool and, if chosen to represent Team USA, has the opportunity to be selected to run in the Men’s 4x400m relay. While not participating in any individual events, the future looks bright for this sprinter.

Stephen Nedoroscik (Men’s Gymnastics)
Stephen Nedoroscik already left his mark on Paris, helping Team USA win their first men’s gymnastics All-Around Team medal since 2008. He is a specialist on the pommel horse and won gold at the 2021 World Championships for the event. Nedoroscik’s routine helped secure bronze for Team USA and made him a social media sensation.

Katie Grimes (Swimming)
Katie Grimes is already capturing medals for Team USA in Paris. The 18-year-old locked down silver in the Women’s 400m Individual Relay, but the action isn’t over yet. Grimes swam in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics and was the youngest American athlete— only 15 at the time. Grimes won multiple medals at the 2022 World Aquatic Championships in Budapest and will likely be a member of Team USA swimming for years to come.

Jahmal Harvey (Boxing)
Harvey is currently one of the top names for USA Boxing. The 2023 Pan American Games gold medalist is hoping to continue the winning streak in Paris. Harvey also won gold at the 2021 World Championships in the Featherweight division. At only 21, Harvey is hoping to lead the U.S. to a men’s gold medal, which hasn’t been done since 2004.

Fred Richard (Men's Gymnastics)
Only a few days into competition, Fred Richard captured an Olympic medal. As a member of Team USA gymnastics, Richard won bronze for the Men’s Artistic Team All-Around event. Now, he has the chance to shine individually in the upcoming All-Around final. Richard received bronze at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastic Championship for team and individual All-Around and won silver at the 2024 NCAA Championship.
