How does scoring working for Olympic Gymnastics?

The team competition is a combination of individual excellence and cohesive performance, as the overall team result depends on the collective contribution of all members. A gymnastics team typically consists of four to six athletes. In the Olympics, each country can have a maximum of five gymnasts on the team.

Each gymnast competes in multiple events, which are usually the vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise for women; and the floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar for men.

In Olympic gymnastics, an athlete's score comes from two parts: the Execution Score and the Difficulty Score.

Each Execution Score starts at 10.0 points. The judges on the execution panel take away points for mistakes like stepping on landings, falls, or bent knees etc. The Difficulty Score starts at zero, and an athlete earn points based on the difficulty of their routine, including the complexity of the elements and how well they connect them.

In Olympic gymnastics, scoring for the whole team is determined by the cumulative performance of its individual members.
